Bio:

Professor Montaz Ali obtained his PhD from Loughborough University, England, in global optimization. After a number of postdoctoral fellowship position in UK and in Finland, he joined Computational and Applied mathematics, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1997. At present Professor Ali is a full professor in Optimization at the same University.

Professor Ali published about 50 journal papers in various field of optimization, including global optimization, combinatorial and discrete optimization and optimal control theory.  He is currently pursuing his research in mixed integer nonlinear programming.

Abstract:

This talk will present various global optimization methods and contribution made by the presenter. A number of challenging global optimization problems will be discussed. A number of practical global optimization problem raised in South African Industries will also be presented together with their solution obtained. The talk will be less technical and for suitable for general audience.
