In this talk, we first introduce the mathematical theory of boundary layer for incompressible fluids, then we present some results about the long time well-posedness for the non-linear Prandtl boundary layer equation on the half plane The initial data are perturbations of a monotonic shear profile. We prove the existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions in weighted Sobolev space. The key point is that the life span of solutions can be arbitrarily large while the initial perturbation of the monotonic shear profile is enough small. We use the energy method to prove the existence of solutions.
